Industrial Manufacturing
Students will experience the unique and the varied processes related to the woodworking industry. Major emphasis will be placed on the safe and correct use of portable and stationary tools. Students will design and create useful projects from one or several of our domestic or imported wood types. Students use various hand tools, routers, lathes, drill presses, surface planers, jointers, spindle sanders, belt and disc sanders, scroll saws, and band saws. Towards the end of the semester, the students will be involved in a production unit where they make and sell LASER engraved items.
Industrial Technology
Students will expand and will develop their technological literacy in our technology lab. Eighth graders will work in design teams and complete design projects that may include rocketry, filming and editing a thirty-second TV commercial, building a gold mining machine, computer programming, making and selling LASER engraved items in our production unit, building mouse trap cars, or designing a house.
Digital Arts and Media
Students will adhere to copyright laws throughout this course. They will become more proficient with image and video editing programs. During this course, students will learn film and photography techniques. They will learn and apply presentation techniques and website design.
Broadcast Journalism
Broadcast journalism provides the opportunity for students to multitask using a variety of skills including interviewing, script writing, scene designing, scene taping and editing, creating voice-overs, creating computer-generated art for titles of features, and teamwork for the purpose of creating news video that is broadcast to the entire staff and student body. The news video promotes school spirit, character education, and communication between the administration and students in a positive an highly engaging format.
