Art 2D
Art 2D involves drawing, painting, and studio projects. We reinforce and refine skills learned in the sixth grade, along with introducing new techniques, processes, and materials. In keeping with District Twenty’s approved standards and benchmarks, students will also be responsible for maintaining a sketchbook journal for recording ideas to use as a resource and planning tool. Students will also leave the class with the knowledge and ability to use the elements and principles of design. Students will leave the seventh grade with a solid base of terminology and techniques so they can make good choices for the classes they would like to take in the eighth grade.

Performing Arts
Beginning Band
Emphasis is on traditional band instruments. This class teaches the basic of musical notation and instruments performance, as well as instrument and sheet music maintenance. Additionally, teachers use the IB/MYP aims and objectives along with the learner profile, which help develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people. Global contexts direct learning toward independent and shared inquiry into our common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet and help to make connections between the disciplines.
7th Honors Band
Students will explore a variety of musical styles, instrument pedagogy, and learn challenging musical repertoire most commonly performed in competitive ensembles. Students will develop skills in such areas as performance (instrument sections and individually), teamwork (contribution and leadership), and music theory.
Choir
This class is for students who have a strong desire to sing and perform. Students in this ensemble will experience a rich choral environment and will develop their abilities to sing in harmony, to express musicality, and to work as a member of a team. This course will emphasize proper vocal technique, choral interpretation, and sight reading. Students will participate in evening performances at MRMS and may also have the opportunity to sing at exciting venues outside of school.
Guitar
This class offers students a unique opportunity to explore the guitar. No previous guitar experience is necessary, as this class is designed for beginners. Students will learn how to fingerpick melodies as well as how to read and strum cords. This course will reinforce music literacy, as pitch and rhythm reading skills are an integral part of learning to play the guitar. Students will participate in a required in-class performance at the end of the quarter.
Drama
This quarter course will provide great opportunities for students who love to perform. This course will include an introduction to Shakespeare. Students will perform a scene from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Class activities will explore elements of the production process, make-up, pacing, costuming, and props, in preparation for an audience. Character traits and behaviors will be a focus during this class. There will be a performance at the end of the quarter during school hours and an evening performance.
